Sadly with all the "fake" SNES Mini's that are available on the market these days (mainly US versions of the SNES Mini) then many unwary people get conned into buying what they think is a genuine SNES Mini only to eventually discover it's a fake that can't of course be modded by them using HakChi...

Of course not everyone looking to buy a SNES Mini knows what exactly the genuine original box looks like, or how they can spot the differences of the actual hardware itself which can often be easily spotted IF you already know what a genuine box and hardware should look like, as some of these fakes can look pretty much like the real thing. Not forgetting of course that many people simply trust that seller is selling them the genuine article...

So let's say you've gone ahead and purchased a SNES Mini from the likes of eBay, Amazon, Facebook Market etc... (anywhere at all where you can pick up a SNES Mini these days) and it's arrived and you've now got hold of what you hope and think is a genuine SNES Mini...

First thing you should do is test it to find out if you have been sold the genuine article or have been conned and sold a complete lemon...

Fortunately It's Very Easy To Check For A SNES Mini Once You Have Got Hold Of It... and here's how to do it...

Simply hook your SNES Mini up to its USB power supply, no need to connect it to a TV set via an HDMI cable or even plug in a joypad...

NOW HOLD DOWN THE RESET BUTTON AND KEEP IT HELD DOWN WHILE YOU SWITCH ON THE MINI WITH ITS POWER ON/ OFF BUTTON...

KEEP THE RESET BUTTON HELD DOWN FOR AT LEAST 5 SECONDS AND IF THE MINI IS REAL/ GENUINE THEN ITS RED POWER LED WILL REMAIN OFF...

IF THE POWER LED REMAINS OFF THEN YOU CAN BE QUITE CONFIDENT THAT YOU HAVE A GENUINE SNES MINI...

(IMPORTANT NOTE: When the mini is powered up in this state (which is called "FELL MODE") then to switch if off again you need to push the power button to the OFF position AND DISCONNECT THE USB POWER CABLE, don't worry you won't damage your Mini doing this but you need to do this in order for your Mini to return to its "normal" state)...

IF the red LED power light remained ON when you tried then this then you can be virtually certain that you have unfortunately purchased a FAKE SNES Mini.

The fake Minis DON'T have the ability to be switched into "FEL MODE" and holding down the RESET button while trying to power a fake Mini on won't make any difference to it and the power light will simply remain on which as said is a clear indication you have been sold a fake and won't be able to mod it using HakChi, so don't waste your time trying to mod it and instead try and get your money back from whomever sold it to you...
